Updating Stata 9.x and Stata 10.x for Windows XP and Windows Vista    

Windows XP       

Stata is a dynamic product that is frequently updated.  We encourage users to update Stata frequently, at least once a month.  This assures that you have the newest features added to Stata as well as any fixes that have been applied to Stata. 

To update Stata for Windows XP, connect your computer to the internet and in the command window type

update all

This will connect to the Stata web site and download any updates to the Stata ado programs and any updates to the Stata executable.  If the Stata executable is updated, then you will be prompted to type

update swap

and this will complete the update of the Stata executable.  You can see what changes have been made by typing

help whatsnew


Windows Vista

To update Stata for Windows Vista, restart your Stata by right-clicking on the Stata executable and select "Run as Administrator" as shown below. Once Stata has started, you will be able to update Stata following the steps above for updating Stata for Windows XP.
