How can I get my own copy of Stata 10?

First of all, if you have purchased Stata 9 in March 2007 or later, contact Stata directly for a price quote for the upgrading to Stata 10. You can send them an email at service@stata.com to request a price quote.

Otherwise, below are some typical situations that one might be in when considering purchasing Stata 10. If there is any part that you are not sure about, contact Stata for more information by either sending an email or even calling them at 800-782-8272.

Case 1. A student or a faculty member never owned a copy of Stata 9 before and wants to purchase a copy of Stata 10.

The most cost-efficient way of getting a copy of Stata 10 in this case is via Stata 10 GradPlansTM. This GradPlan is the most cost effective way for students, faculty and staff to obtain Stata 10. For example, the cost for a copy of Stata/IC 10 with perpetual license is $155 under the GradPlan. It does not come with any documentation, except the Getting Started manual. Under the GradPlan, one can also purchase for a substantive amount of discount a set of Base Documentation, which includes the Base Reference Manual, Data Management Reference Manual, User's Guide and Quick Reference and Index. There are also many other options under the GradPlan that one could choose. Visit their site for more details.

Case 2. A student or a faculty member bought a copy of Stata 9 a while ago, via GradPlans and now wants to upgrade to Stata 10 without buying any new documentation.

In this case, the most cost-efficient way is still via the GradPlan. In other words, GradPlan does not offer upgrade per se, it will be a new purchase.

Case 3. Someone owns a copy of Stata 9 and now wants to upgrade to Stata 10 with a new set of base documentation

Since GradPlan offers discount for the set of base documentation, it will be more cost-effective to order via the GradPlan as a new purchase order and include the base documentation as part of the order as described for case 1.

Case 4. Someone bought Stata 9 at regular academic price and now wants to upgrade to Stata/IC 10 with a full set of documentation.

In this case, because that GradPlan does not offer any discount for the full set of documentation, it will be more cost-efficient to use the regular option of upgrading for educational users.  You might also want to contact Stata for a quote for this case.

What are the main differences among Stata/MP, Stata/IC, Stata/SE and Small Stata?

See http://stata.com/products/whichstata.html and see the section comparing these flavors so you can choose the right version for you.
