Stata FAQ
I have Stata 10, how can I save data so they can be used in Stata 8 or 9?

Say that you wish to share your data with someone who has Stata version 8 or 9 and you only have Stata version 10. Neither Stata 8 nor Stata 9 can open Stata 10 data files. How then, can you share your data? It is easy to do with the saveold command, for example:

saveold mydata
and that file will be usable in Stata 8 and Stata 9.
