Statistical Software Packages

The purpose of this page is to make users aware of the latest versions and updates to statistical software that is commonly used at UCLA.  A short list of free statistical software is provided at the end of this page.  For the latest updates for those programs, please visit the link provided.

• Amos
  • The current version is Amos 21.
  • For more information regarding Amos, please see http://www-142.ibm.com/software/products/us/en/spss-amos .
  • Amos is an SPSS product; however, it is included with the SPSS license that can be purchased from Software Central.   
  • Amos 21 is included in the SPSS Grad Pack (along with SPSS 21) that students can purchase from the computer store (in the bookstore in Ackerman Union).
  • The license for the Grad Pack is good for 4 years.
• EQS
  • The current version is EQS 6.1.
  • EQS can be purchased directly from Multivariate Software at http://www.mvsoft.com/ . 
  • Mac and UNIX versions are available.
• EViews
  • The current version is 8.
  • EViews can be purchased directly from Quantitative Micro Software at http://www.eviews.com/index.html .
  • A patch for version 7 is available at http://www.eviews.com/download/download.html .
• HLM
  • The current version is HLM 7.
  • HLM can be purchased directly from SSI (Scientific Software International) at http://www.ssicentral.com/ .

• JMP
  • The current version is JMP 10 for Windows.  For Mac, the latest version is JMP 7.
  • Annual licenses for JMP can be purchased from Software Central .  These licenses are good from April 15, 2012 to April 14, 2013.
• LatentGold
  • The current version is LatentGold 4.5.
  • LatentGold can be purchased directly from Statistical Innovations at http://www.statisticalinnovations.com/products/latentgold_v4.html .
  • A demo version can be downloaded for free at http://www.statisticalinnovations.com/products/latentgold_v4_demo.html .
• Limdep
  • The current version is Limdep 10.0.
  • Limdep can be purchased directly from Limdep at http://www.limdep.com/ .

• Lisrel 8.8
  • The current version is Lisrel 8.8.

  • The current version is MLwiN 2.27.

• Mplus
  • The current version is Mplus 7.  Updates can be obtained from the Mplus website at http://www.statmodel.com/support/index.shtml .
  • Mplus can be purchased directly from Mplus at www.statmodel.com .  There is student pricing and academic pricing.
  • The documentation is online in .pdf format at http://www.statmodel.com/ugexcerpts.shtml .
  • Mplus 7 is available for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux for both 32-bit and 64-bit computers.

• PASS
  • The current version is PASS 12.
  • PASS can be purchased directly from NCSS at http://www.ncss.com/ .
• Rats
  • The current version is 8.2.
  • Versions are available for Windows, Mac, UNIX and Linux.
  • Rats can be purchased from Estima at http://www.estima.com/orders.shtml .

• Sample Power
  • The current version is Sample Power 3.0.1.

• SAS
  • The current version is SAS 9.3.

  • Annual licenses for SAS can be purchased from Software Central .  These licenses are good from July 1, 2012 to June 30, 2013. 
  • UNIX version of SAS 9.3.  There is no current version of SAS for the Mac.

• Snap
  • The current version is Snap 10.10.
  • Snap can be purchased from Snap at http://www.snapsurveys.com/ .
  • A free information packet and demo CD can be obtained at http://www.snapsurveys.com/contact/ .
• Solas
  • The current version is Solas 4.0.
  • Solas can be purchased directly from Statistical Solutions at http://www.statistical-solutions-software.com/ .
• SPSS 21
  • The current version is SPSS 21.
  • Annual licenses for SPSS can be purchased from Software Central .  These licenses are good from July 1, 2012 to June 30, 2013. 
  • UCLA has licenses for SPSS Base, Advanced Models and Regression Model.  Other modules for which UCLA does not have a license (such as Complex Samples, Conjoint Analysis, Categories, Trends, Tables, Maps, Exact Tests, Missing Values Analysis, Classification Trees and Data Validation) can be purchased directly from SPSS.  Again, you would purchase an annual license.
  • SPSS 21 is available for the Mac.
  • The documentation for SPSS installs with the software and can be accessed by clicking on Help -> Command Syntax Reference.

• SPSS Grad Pack
  • This includes SPSS 21 (Base, Regression and Advanced Models) and Amos 21.  It is available for purchase from the computer store (in the bookstore at Ackerman Union).
  • The license is good for 4 years.
  • SPSS will support only questions regarding the installation of the software.  You can get patches, but you will not receive updates to the software.  For example, you can get the patches so that you are running SPSS version 21.0.x, but you will not get SPSS version 22 when it becomes available (unless you buy another Grad Pack).
• Stata IC / Stata SE / Stata MP
  • The current version is Stata 12.1.  After installing Stata, you will want to issue the command -update all- (while your computer is connected to the internet) to update it.  To see the latest update that has been installed, type -update query- .  You can also download the updates from the Stata website ( http://www.stata.com/support/updates/ ) and install them while your computer is offline.

  • The current version of Stata is available for UNIX and Mac.
  • Stata can be purchased directly from Stata Corp. at www.stata.com ; for the GradPlan, please see http://www.stata.com/order/new/edu/gradplans/gp-direct.html . 
  • Licenses for Stata are perpetual (unless you get certain student versions), which means that once you purchase the product, you do not have to pay an annual renewal fee.

• Statistica
  • The current version is Statistica 10.
  • Patches for Statistica can be obtained at http://www.statsoft.com/support/download/statistica-software-updates/ .
• Statistica can be purchased directly from http://www.onthehub.com/statsoft/ for PC version. The concurrent network and web version can be purchased from StatSoft at http://www.statsoft.com/products/request-academic-quote/ .
• Power analysis and data mining included in PC version. There are add-on modules for power analysis and data mining for concurrent network and web version.

• StatTransfer
  • StatTransfer can be purchased from Stata at www.stata.com .  Please note that StatTransfer and Stata are two different programs and must be purchased separately.
  • StatTransfer can also be purchased from Circle Systems at http://www.stattransfer.com/ .
  • The current version is StatTransfer 11.  Click on the "About" tab at the top and select "Now" from the pull-down menu to update the program.
  • The current version of StatTransfer (version 11) is available for the Mac.

• StatXact
  • The current version is StatXact 10.
  • StatXact can be purchased directly from Cytel at http://www.cytel.com .

• SUDAAN
  • The current version is SUDAAN 11. 
  • The patch to upgrade to from SUDAAN 10.0 to 10.0.1 can be downloaded at http://www.rti.org/sudaan/page.cfm/SUDAAN_10#7 .
  • For more information on SUDAAN, please see http://www.rti.org/sudaan/ .
  • Annual licenses for SUDAAN (both SAS-callable and stand alone) can be purchased from Software Central .  These licenses are good from January 1, 2013 to December 31, 2014. 
  • UCLA has licenses for both the Windows and UNIX versions of SUDAAN.
  • The documentation in .pdf format (including the SUDAAN Language Manual and the SUDAAN Examples Manual) install with the program and can be found in the Manual folder in the SUDAAN directory on your computer.  If you used the default installation settings, the manuals will be in c:\program files\sudaan\manual .

• Systat
  • The current version is Systat 13.
  • A patch for Systat 12 (and earlier versions) can be downloaded from http://www.systat.com/Login.aspx?ReturnUrl=%2fDownloads%2fDownloadPatch.aspx .

  • Annual licenses for Systat can be purchased from Software Central .  These licenses are good from July 1, 2012 to June 30, 2013. 
  • No Mac version is available.
• WesVar
  • The current version is WesVar 5.1.  It is a free download from Westat at http://www.westat.com/expertise/information_systems/WesVar/index.cfm .
