There are many tools you can use using LaTeX for windows. Here is a suite of tools you can use
These tools have been developed by separate folks, but they are good about working together. We have found they work best together if installed with default locations and other default settings. This is not to say that you could choose other locations, but it is possible that you may need to take some extra steps to teach them how to work together in that case.
Since WinEdt is an integrated environment that calls the other tools, we suggest installing it last in case that helps it find the other tools.
You can find the MiKTeX compiler at http://www.miktex.org. The main page should have a link for downloading it. Follow the instructions carefully. The download is a two step process where you download a "downloader" program, and then you run that program to actually obtain MiKTeK. We suggest a complete installation to get all of the additional supplemental modules. This download can take an hour or more even on a fast computer with a fast connection.
You can download Ghostscript and Ghostview at http://www.cs.wisc.edu/~ghost/ . These are two different programs that you need to download and install one at a time.
Ghostscript: Look for a link like "Obtaining AFPL Ghostscript X.XX" and then after clicking that, look for a download for those running Windows. The executable will be named something like gs811w32.exe (but the 811 may be different reflecting a newer version than 8.11).
Ghostview: Near where you found the download for Ghostscript, you should see a download for Ghostview. It will be named something like gsv45w32.exe (but the 45 may be different reflecting a version newer than 4.5).
We suggest that you first install Ghostscript then install Ghostview.
You can download WinEdt at http://www.winedt.com/ . The main page should have a link for how to download this program. This program is shareware (not freeware) so be sure to read the licensing and pricing information.
