Microsoft Licensing at UCLA
UCLA participates in three distinct Microsoft Volume Licensing Programs for departments. It is possible for a single department to utilize all three licensing programs simultaneously.
On every calendar quarter (January 1, April 1, July 1 and October 1) Microsoft use rights are posted to a public web site at http://www.microsoftvolumelicensing.com/userights/DocumentHome.aspx where you can download at your convenience, the most current use rights for that particular quarter.
Before you deploy the products you license, it is important you review and understand the use rights and restrictions for those products. This will help ensure your compliance with those terms.
To keep informed about Microsoft Licensing developments at UCLA, join the UCLA Microsoft Licensing email list. This announcement only list is used to convey information about Microsoft licensing requirements, volume Educational License Programs (Open, Select, and Campus) and upcoming changes to the upgrade options.
Microsoft Consolidated Campus Agreement (MCCA)
This UC-wide agreement allows departments to purchase annual licenses for the most popular Microsoft desktop and server products at substantially discounted prices based on departmental FTE (Full Time Equivalents). Enrolling in the MCCA makes sense if your department: has more computers than people, wants simplified compliance and administration, lab computer desktop products at no additional cost, and consistent predictable expenses per year. Student coverage is also an option with the MCCA. Under the MCCA each department can choose its own custom mix of products. MCCA licenses are valid for one year (renewed annually) and include upgrade and downgrade rights on licensed products. Learn more about the MCCA.
Please check with your departmental license coordinator before you purchase any additional (single) Microsoft licenses via either of the two programs below because your department may already be covered for those products under the MCCA. Users agree to License Terms.
UCLA participates in the UC wide Microsoft Select Program which provides new permanent licenses and software assurance for most Microsoft applications, operating systems, and networking software products (media and documentation available separately). Users agree to License Terms.
For technical assistance on Microsoft products there are several options available from the Microsoft Education Support site.
Microsoft Open License
Departments may purchase Microsoft licenses and media via the Open Program (typically 10-15% more costly than the Select program) through the ASUCLA computer store in Ackerman. There is a minimum of 5 licenses per department per order, excluding media. Most Open licenses are purchased per machine and the program encompasses all available Microsoft licenses. Open licenses are permanent for the version purchased. Software Assurance (the right to upgrade and downgrade) is available for an additional fee. Please contact the ASUCLA computer store at x 56952 for information on ordering licenses on the Microsoft Open program.

Software Central has arranged with RTI International to provide SUDAAN products to UCLA departments at a significant discount over academic list price.
SUDAAN is software for the statistical analysis of correlated data. It is specifically designed for analysis of cluster-correlated data from studies involving recurrent events, longitudinal data, repeated measures, multivariate outcomes, multi-stage sample designs, stratified designs, unequally weighted data, and without-replacement samples. SUDAAN fits marginal or population-averaged models using generalized estimating equations (GEE). Robust variance estimates are computed that fully account for intracluster correlation, unequal weighting, stratification, and without-replacement sampling. You can use SPSS or SAS to manage your database and easily use SUDAAN to analyze your SPSS or SAS data sets.
SUDAAN for SAS runs under
- PCs under Windows NT/2000/XP
- Sun workstations under Solaris 2.8 and up
- PCs under Linux Operating System
SUDAAN Stand Alone (for use with SPSS) runs under
- PCs under Windows 95/98/ME and NT/2000/XP and DOS
- SUN workstations under Solaris

UCLA participates in a multi-year system wide agreement with Tripwire that provides at least a 73% discount on purchases of their change monitoring software products. One small change can result in a huge impact to a computer network. Without a way to know what changes have occurred and whether or not they're desired, accidental, benign, malicious, intentional, or originate from inside or outside, IT teams have few options for preventing negative consequences and minimizing damage. Tripwire Change Monitoring and Analysis software gives you visibility into service-affecting changes. Tripwire software reduces trouble-shooting time and enables rapid discovery and recovery. Immediate detection of change on multi-vendor devices across the enterprise enables the fastest possible restoration to a Known and Trusted state, and maximizes the service levels provided to your internal and external customers. Products are available for servers and network devices. Additional product licenses may be ordered by using Tripwire order form. Users agree to License Terms.
